By India Today Web Desk<\/b><\/a>: A record attendance was present at the Lusail Stadium in Doha when Argentina’s Lionel Messi turned up the heat against Mexico in Group C match at the FIFA World Cup. In a must win game, when things were not moving for Argentina, Messi’s speck of brilliance earned them the lead in the second half, before the he pitched in with an assist to seal the game. <\/p>\n

FIFA tweeted out that a total of 88,966 people attended the game, second highest after the 1994 FIFA World Cup final. <\/p>\n

Argentina were stuck in the first half with Mexico putting up a spirited display, but Lionel Messi found the space to break the deadlock. The Lusail crowd chanted the name of the mercurial forward in a fitting response to the goal that absolute shook the Mexican spirit.<\/p>\n

Messi not only scored, but also created the space for 21-year-old Enzo Fernandez, who scored a stunning curler to seal the game for Argentina in the 87th minute. Messi is now both the youngest and oldest player to have scored and assisted in a single World Cup since 1996. In 2006, he had done the same against Serbia. <\/p>\n

Messi’s brilliance kept Argentina alive in the World Cup, after the fell to a shock defeat against Saudi Arabia. They still have to win against Poland in their final group stage game to secure their chances into the knockout stages of the tournament.<\/p>\n
