By India Today Web Desk<\/b><\/a>: Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar felicitated the Indian U19 Women\u2019s team for winning the U19 Women\u2019s T20 World Cup in South Africa. On Sunday, Shafali Verma\u2019s India beat Grace Scrivens\u2019 England by seven wickets at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom to be crowed champions of the inaugural edition of the mega event.<\/p>\n

India bowled their opponents out for 68 after which they chased the target down with as many as 36 balls to spare. Tendulkar, who won the 50-over World Cup back in 2011, lauded the Indian players for their stupendous achievement.<\/p>\n

“By winning this World Cup, you have given a dream to young girls in India, to represent the country,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying during the felicitation ceremony.<\/p>\n

Tendulkar also said that the introduction of the Women\u2019s Premier League (WPL) is going to change the landscape of women\u2019s cricket in India.<\/p>\n

“The beginning of the WPL is going to be the biggest thing. I believe in equality for men and women, and not just in sports. There should be equal opportunity,” he added.<\/p>\n

Apart from Sachin, BCCI president Roger Binny<\/strong><\/a>, honorary secretary Jay Shah and Rajiv Shukla were also present. After the motivational speech from Tendulkar, the Indian team was presented with a cheque of INR 5 crore.<\/p>\n

The felicitation ceremony took place before the third and final T20I between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.<\/p>\n

As far as the World Cup was concerned, India won all their matches in the group stage before losing to Australia by seven wickets in the Super 6. Shafali\u2019s women beat New Zealand before taking down England in the final.<\/p>\n
