By India Today Web Desk<\/b><\/a>: Premier League side Leeds United have sacked American manager Jesse Marsch after a string of poor results that have left the side languishing in 17th place in the league.<\/p>\n

The move comes after Leeds suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The loss leaves Leeds in 17th position, with 18 points from 20 matches, with a negative goal-difference. They are only ahead of Everton, Bournemouth and Southampton in the league standings.<\/p>\n

The 49-year-old manager was hired in February last year as a replacement for Marcelo Bielsa, who was the manager for over three years and got Leeds promoted to the Premier League after an absence of 16 years. The American also oversaw a transfer spending of over 100 million GBP on new signings including Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Georginio Rutter.<\/p>\n

The club released a statement thanking Marsch for keeping the side in the Premier League on the final day of the 2021\/22 season.<\/p>\n

“Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties. Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season. Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club. We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future. The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days,\u201d read Leeds\u2019 statement.<\/p>\n

Marsch oversaw 37 games as Leeds manager and managed to win 11 of them. Leeds are currently suffering from a winless seven-game run with their next two Premier League matches against Manchester United. <\/p>\n
