A false FIR (first information report) was filed against Lovepreet Singh. The police stopped our vehicles before they launched a lathi-charge,&#8221; Mr Singh told NDTV. &#8220;The violence wouldn&#8217;t have happened if the police had not lathi-charged people,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv\">\n<div class=\"ins_instory_dv_cont\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"7n7td3sg\" id=\"story_image_main\" class=\"lozad\" src=\"https:\/\/c.ndtvimg.com\/2023-02\/7n7td3sg_amritsar-clash-ani-650-_650x400_24_February_23.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p class=\"ins_instory_dv_caption\">Supporters of &#8220;Waris Punjab De&#8221; clash with Punjab Police on Thursday<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>He denied allegations that he took refuge from police action using the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wherever we go, the palanquin of Guru Granth Sahib moves ahead,&#8221; Mr Singh said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I went inside the police station and told them to arrest me. A wrong FIR was filed against us. I had requested them to close the FIR within a week, after which I went to the police station,&#8221; Mr Singh said.<\/p>\n<p>On the Punjab Police&#8217;s planned action against them, Mr Singh said the cycle of protest will repeat if the cops move in.
