Think of New Zealand in the context of the ICC ODI World Cup<\/a> and you will think of a team which has the ability to push other top opposition hard and yet one that somehow can’t seem to cross that final hurdle.
The 2019 World Cup final will always be remembered as perhaps the most heartbreaking match ever played in cricket history. The Kiwis lost the final to England via a strange boundary countback rule (which the ICC later scrapped), after both the match and the subsequent Super Over were tied.<\/p>\n

Australia are considered the ‘boss’ of the World Cup, having won five ODI World Cup titles in 12 editions, from 1987 to 2015. # New Zealand have lost both the World Cup Finals they have been in so far – by 7 wickets to Australia at Melbourne on March 29, 2015 & to England (after the match and Super Over were tied, via a boundary countback) at Lord’s on July 14, 2019.
# Tom Latham had effected 21 dismissals (all caught) in ten matches in the 2019 edition, emulating a World Cup record by a wicketkeeper, previously held by Adam Gilchrist in ten matches in 2002-03.<\/p>\n

# Martin Guptill<\/a> holds a world cup record for the highest individual innings – 237 not out off 163 balls at Wellington on March 21, 2015. The only other double hundred at the World Cup is in the name of Chris Gayle – 215 off 147 balls vs Zimbabwe at Canberra on February 24, 2015.
# Guptill had taken 117 runs off the first 120 balls and the next 120 runs off just 43 balls at an unbelievable strike rate of 279.
# Guptill had hit 35 boundaries in his aforesaid innings – 24 fours and eleven sixes. 162 runs managed by him through boundaries remain a World Cup record. The next best via boundaries is 136 runs (sixteen sixes and ten fours) by Chris Gayle for West Indies vs Zimbabwe at Canberra on February 24, 2015.
# New Zealand had managed 393 for six in the quarter-final vs West Indies at Wellington on March 21, 2015 – the highest total by any team in a knock-out match of the World Cup. The said score remains New Zealand’s highest total in a World Cup match.<\/p>\n

# Trent Boult had captured 22 wickets at 16.86 runs apiece in nine matches in 2014-15 -a record by a New Zealand bowler in a World Cup competition. He had captured 5 for 27 vs Australia (his best ever in the WC) at Auckland on February 28, 2015 and 4 for 44 vs West Indies at Wellington on March 21, 2015.
# Lockie Ferguson had narrowly missed emulating the above New Zealand record, held by Boult. He could bag 21 wickets at 19.47 runs apiece in nine matches in the 2019 edition.
# Brendon McCullum remains the only batter to register two innings of over 92% of runs through boundaries (minimum qualification 50) – 96.10 (74 runs out of 77 off 25 balls -7 sixes & 8 fours) vs England at Wellington on February 20, 2015 and 94.92 (56 runs out of 59 off 26 balls – 4 sixes & 8 fours) vs South Africa at Auckland on March 24, 2015.<\/p>\n

# Tim Southee<\/a> had produced marvellous figures of 7 for 33 vs England at Wellington on February 20, 2015 – the best by a New Zealand bowler in ODIs\/World Cup.
# New Zealand (72\/0) had defeated Kenya (69) by ten wickets with 252 balls remaining -their biggest win in terms of balls remaining in the World Cup.
# Brendon McCullum took 18 balls to race to his fifty (77 off 25 balls) against England at Wellington on February 20, 2015 – a World Cup record for the quickest fifty.
# The first two hundreds in their first match as Captain at the World Cup were recorded by two New Zealanders – Glenn Turner – 175 not out vs East Africa Birmingham on June 7, 1975 & Martin Crowe – 100 not out vs Australia at Auckland on February 22, 1992
