NEW DELHI: In a rain-affected group A league match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Bengaluru on Sunday, the underdog team Tripura<\/a> secured a well-deserved 53-run victory over the formidable Mumbai.
Despite this loss, Mumbai remains firmly positioned for a quarter-final berth, leading the group with 20 points from six games and one match left to play.
Opting to bat first, Tripura posted a competitive total of 288 for 5 in 50 overs.In response, Mumbai faced a revised target of 265 in 43 overs due to the application of the VJD method, a rain rule used in domestic games.

Although Mumbai’s skipper Rahane contributed 78 runs off 84 balls, he appeared uneasy against Tripura’s not-so-formidable bowling attack.

Despite this individual brilliance, Delhi face a challenging path to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the national one-day championship, currently holding just 12 points after six games with one match remaining.
Delhi found themselves struggling at 80 for four initially, but a remarkable partnership between Himmat Singh and Lakshay Thareja (66 off 78 balls) changed the game.
The duo stitched together an unbroken fifth-wicket stand, amassing 199 runs and guiding Delhi to a formidable total of 279 for 4 in their allotted 50 overs.
Himmat’s innings was adorned with 10 fours and six sixes, showcasing his aggressive batting prowess, while Thareja played a supportive role with six fours.
Chandigarh, in their pursuit of the target, faced a challenging task and was eventually bowled out for 210 in 44.2 overs. The India ‘A’ duo of Navdeep Saini and Harshit Rana played crucial roles in Delhi’s bowling attack, each claiming three wickets.
Despite the loss, Himmat’s exceptional innings and the significant partnership with Thareja marked a memorable victory for Delhi.
