The Indian Air Force (IAF) has, for the first time, successfully landed an aircraft using night vision goggles (NVG) on an advanced landing ground in the Eastern sector.\u00a0The\u00a0IAF’s\u00a0official X account shared the news, stating an\u00a0“IAF C-130J aircraft carried out a successful Night Vision Goggles aided landing at an Advanced Landing Ground in the Eastern sector.”<\/p>\n

The Eastern sector covers the northeastern states of India\u00a0such\u00a0as parts of Odisha, Jharkhand, Sikkim, West Bengal and Bihar. It also oversees the protection of a 6300 km long international border with China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh.<\/p>\n

Using NVG technology, the IAF can now conduct safer and more effective operations in low-light conditions.\u00a0This\u00a0also\u00a0enhances the\u00a0IAF’s\u00a0ability\u00a0to effectively embark on and conclude night-time missions.<\/p>\n

The IAF uploaded two clips on X. One video showed the\u00a0aircraft’s\u00a0smooth landing through NVG, while the other\u00a0clip\u00a0provided a view from inside the aircraft window. Both clips were in green, which is typical of NVG visuals.<\/p>\n

This operation is part of the\u00a0IAF’s\u00a0strategy to continuously improve its skills and\u00a0\u201csafeguard\u00a0nation’s\u00a0sovereignty by enhancing operational reach and defence preparedness,\u201d\u00a0they wrote on X.\u00a0\u201cHar Kaam Desh Ke Naam,\u201d\u00a0they added.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the IAF successfully conducted a night landing<\/a> by the same aircraft (C130-J) at the Kargil airstrip.\u00a0This\u00a0was the first time such an operation was carried out at the airstrip, located\u00a0near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Ladakh region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Indian Air Force has a history of operating the An-32 multipurpose transport aircraft from the Kargil airstrip, primarily for civilian transportation between Kargil, Srinagar, and Jammu, especially during severe winters. However, until recently, night landing capabilities were\u00a0not available\u00a0at the Kargil airstrip.<\/p>\n

During the 1962 Sino-Indian war, the\u00a0IAF’s\u00a043\u00a0Squadron’s\u00a0An-12s were operational in Kargil, Leh, and Thoise in Ladakh.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
