Notably, the Australia cricketer recently pulled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 due to personal reasons. Zampa was set to play for Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing 17th edition of the T20 extravaganza, however, he pulled out of the competition at the very last moment due to mental fatigue.

The New South Wales-born cricketer had a packed schedule in 2023 ahead of the ODI World Cup where he plied his trade in Major League Cricket and The Hundred as well. During his time away from the cricket pitch, the 32-year-old had an introspection where he felt that he would rather play the game six-seven months a year than nine or ten months and spend quality time with his young family.

“There’s always a lot of chat about ‘can you play franchise cricket all year round’ and it was something I had thought about – at what age do I get through to try to then play a bit of franchise cricket. But after 2023 and winning the World Cup and all that, and having a young family now as well, I’ve realised I want to play cricket for as long as I can, and instead of trying to play for nine or 10 months of the year, it’s played for six or seven,” Zampa told the Age.

Further speaking ahead, Zampa revealed his delight while donning the national colours and playing under different captains. He also stated that he doesn’t get the same buzz out of playing domestic leagues as being in the Australian dressing room.

“I’ve really come to love playing for Australia. I always loved it, but playing under Dan Vettori, Andrew McDonald and Pat and Mitch as captains, it is just so enjoyable. I make good money playing for Australia and I would love to prioritise playing for Australia and being with my family,” he added.

“I don’t get enough out of franchise cricket. It’s great for certain aspects of your life, and it can be really enjoyable, but it’s not like being in the Aussie dressing room, not for me anyway. I don’t get the same buzz out of it” he further said.

Adam Zampa: Man with the golden arm for Australia

Notably, the wrist spinner is one of the most sought-after spinners all over the world with his remarkable wicket-taking ability in the white-ball formats. Zampa was the second-highest wicket taker of the tournament during Australia’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2021. He also finished on the second spot in the wicket-taker’s list during ODI World Cup 2023 with 23 scalps to his name from 11 innings.

Having last played any form of professional cricket in February, Zampa got the much-needed rest ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The wrist-spinner will be hoping to have a memorable tournament and help his team win their third World Cup since 2021. The Mitchell Marsh-led side is placed in Group B alongside England, Namibia, Scotland and Oman against whom they will start their campaign on June 6.

Published By:

Rishabh Beniwal

Published On:

May 26, 2024

Tune In

[ad_2]

Source link

[ad_1] Star Australia wrist-spinner Adam Zampa has vowed to prioritise international cricket over domestic T20 leagues as he doesn’t get the same buzz out of it.
