Riyan Parag showcased immense self-belief in his own skill-set and hard work as he looked assured, saying that he would play for India very soon. Parag had a spectacular run in IPL 2024 as he finished off at the No. 3 position in the list of top run-scorers with 573 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 149.21 and four fifties. He played a crucial role in RR reaching till the Qualifier 2 round of IPL 2024, before getting knocked out by SRH in Chennai on May 24, Friday. <\/p>\n
Parag rose through the ranks and managed to repay the years of investment that RR made in him over the last 5 years. The U-19 World Cup winner from 2018 could not even manage to cross the 200-run mark in the previous editions. However, he made a significant jump with his performance by getting promoted at the No. 4 position. <\/p>\n
Parag was confident of making it into the Indian team as his self-belief looked at its peak while making the statement. <\/p>\n
“At some point, you’ll have to take me, right? So that is my belief, I’m going to play for India. I don’t really care when,” Parag told PTI. <\/p>\n
“When I was not scoring runs – I said this in an interview as well that I am going to play for India.”<\/p>\n
“That is me believing in myself. That is not me being arrogant. That is what my plan was with my dad, when I started playing cricket when I was like 10-years-old. We were going to play for India regardless of anything.”<\/p>\n
After the T20 World Cup, India will play 5 T20Is against Zimbabwe, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Youngsters like Parag, Harshit Rana and Abhishek Sharma might get a go in the Indian team. <\/p>\n
“Whether it’s the next tour, whether it’s a tour in six months, whether it’s a tour in one year… I don’t really put my thought behind when I should play. That is the selector’s job, that is other people’s job,” Parag said.<\/p>\n
Parag gave an extra dose of motivation as he reflected on his biggest takeaway from IPL 2024 being believing in one his own self. <\/p>\n
“The biggest thing that I’ve taken away from the last season is that believing in yourself actually works out, because a lot of people say a lot of different things, whether it’s negative, whether it’s positive. But at the end of the day, what matters is what you think about yourself and that is what I’ve been for,” he said.<\/p>\n
