The IPL is done and dusted and it’s time for the T20 World Cup. Cricket tournaments are coming thick and fast as the most marketable and the fastest-growing format — T20 cricket — is making its presence felt. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the ninth edition of the men’s T20 World Cup will have 20 teams as the International Cricket Council is looking to make a serious effort toward making the game global. The decision to award the hosting rights to the USA tells the story as the global cricket body is looking to tap into the biggest sports market in the world. USA will co-host a cricket tournament of the magnitude of the men’s T20 World Cup for the first time.<\/p>\n
Keep in mind, cricket is not new to the USA as the first-ever recorded match was played between USA and Canada as early as 1844 at the St George’s Cricket Club in New York. Incidentally, these two teams will meet in the opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prarie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n
In what will be a battle of the neighbours, both teams would be aiming to start the campaign with a win in tough group that also features India and Pakistan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
