New Delhi:

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez can escape the country easily as she is not short of money, the Enforcement Directorate told a court today, arguing against bail for her over charges linked to a Rs 200 crore extortion case involving conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar.

The court questioned why the actor had not been arrested so far.

“Why haven’t you arrested Jacqueline yet despite issuing an LOC? Other accused are in jail. Why adopt a pick-and-choose policy?” the court asked the Enforcement Directorate.

The court is likely to announce its decision tomorrow on Jacqueline Fernandez’ bail request. She was granted interim bail earlier.

The Enforcement Directorate’s main argument against the actor getting bail was that she tried to flee the country, didn’t cooperate in the investigation and that she faced serious allegations.

“We have not seen Rs 50 lakh in cash in our entire life but Jacqueline frittered away Rs 7.14 crore for fun. She has tried every trick in the book to try and escape because she has enough money,” the Enforcement Directorate argued.

The Enforcement Directorate has issued an alert – a Lookout Circular (LOC) – in airports to stop the actor from leaving the country.

Jacqueline Fernandez has been named as an accused in a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate in the extortion case against jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekar. The actor has been accused of receiving expensive gifts from Sukesh Chandrashekar, who extorted crores from celebrities and businessmen.

The Sri Lanka-born Bollywood actor said she received gifts like luxury cars, Gucci and Chanel bags, Gucci gym wear, Louis Vuitton shoes and jewellery. She also said Sukesh Chandrasekhar had arranged private jet trips and hotel stays for her.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who has been in a Delhi jail since 2017, allegedly cheated many, including former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh’s wife Aditi Singh.
