Farmers protest LIVE updates: Borders have been sealed ahead of the march.

Farmers on Tuesday morning commenced their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march from Punjab to press for their demands, amid heavy barricading at Haryana-Punjab border and entry points into the national capital.
The Haryana Police hurled tear gas shells when a group of youth, who were part of the farmers’ ‘Chalo Delhi’ protest march, tried to break barricades set up at the Shambhu border in Ambala, officials said.

Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, “As far as demands of the farmers are concerned, the central Govt should immediately have discussions with the farmers and agree to what they are saying…”
On security arrangements for farmers’ protest, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Additional CP Northern Range, Delhi Police says,” A sufficient number of police & CAPF personnel deployed on all Delhi borders. During such large-scale protests, we request the administration to designate any large area as a temporary holding area or temporary detention centre. In view of the farmers’ march to the national capital, one or more gates at eight stations of the Delhi Metro were shut on Tuesday morning. However, these stations are not closed and entry and exit of passengers is permitted through other gates.
Official sources said the gates have been shut for security arrangements on instructions of police authorities.
Many gates have been shut at several stations — Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Udyog Bhawan, Janpath and Barakhamba Road, a senior official said.
